PROF. S.G. BARNES DIES IN VERMONT
Word has come to Grinnell of the death last week Tuesday of Prof. Stephen G. Barnes for many years in charge of the department of English in Iowa College. Dr. Barnes was a student of rare worth, an enthusiastic and succcessful instructor and a devoted leader of the young.
He has been preaching for a number of years at Essex Junction, Vermont. He early received a degree in theology and often filled the pulpit in Grinnell. People were delighted to hear him partly on account of his real scholarship and partly on account of his fine interpretation of Christian ideals. His wife was Hannah Magoun, daughter of Pres. Magoun, a woman also of culture, refinement and education.
Mr. Barnes left Iowa college about 1889 to join the Congregational ministry and for many years his home has been in or near Essex Junction.
