MAE L. BROWN RITES CONDUCTED

Mrs. Mae L. Brown, 79, of 3260 E. University Ave., Des Moines, died Thursday, Aug. 13, at her home.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1890 at Mason City, and after her education in the public schools there she attended Drake University and Cedar Falls Teachers College. She received her teaching certificate and taught school prior to her marriage, and also from 1943 to 1946 in the Des Moines area.

On July 5, 1915, she was married to Hugh O. Brown. The couple lived in the Grinnell area until 1943, at which time they moved to Des Moines.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Des Moines.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Jean Fritz of Tujunga, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Maurice in 1967; and three brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brown were held at 10 a.m. today (Monday) at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Leo V. Kuebrich officiating. Interment was in the Calvary section of Hazelwood Cemetery. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and pallbearers included Larry Coleman, Albert Sanders, James Sanders, Eugene Wailes, Harold Weatherly and Wayne Dayton.

A rosary service was held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home.
