CHERYL LAFERN SYRCUP
Cheryl LaFern Syrcup died Aug. 15, 2000 at Veterans Administration Hospital Hospice Center in Palo Alto, Calif.
A memorial gathering for her was at Unity Church in Palo Alto Aug. 18. A memorial service in Montezuma will be Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church. She will be buried in Jackson Township Cemetery.
Miss Syrcup was born in Montezuma on Nov. 23, 1918 and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1936. She worked for the telephone company for several years before going to work for United Air Lines in San Francisco in the communications department. She lived in the Burlingame/San Mateo area for 56 years, retiring from United in 1980 after 38 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Iva (Hamilton) Syrcup; sisters, Maybelle Wilson, Helen Johnston and Carmen Hutchinson and nieces, Joanna (Johnston) Hagerty and Peggy (Wilson) Cook-Moe.
Miss Syrcup is survived by her nephews, Don Wilson, Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; Richard Wilson, Biwabi, Minn.; Philip Wilson, Aurora, Minn.; nieces, Juanita (Johnston) Bower, Muscatine; Judy (Johnston) Cole, Webster City; Carmen (Wilson) Maki, Missoula, Mont.; Beverly (Hutchinson ) Waddell, Urbandale; and Karen (Hutchinson) Hurd-Kuhn, Omaha; many great-nieces and nephews and her friends for 56 years, Earlene and John Woehrle of Palo Alto.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
