The Grinnell (IA) Herald; May 23, 1922

MRS. J. HENRY HINK

Maria Louisa Wanner was born Feb. 12th, 1860 at Princeton, Ill. While she was a small child her father was killed in the Civil War. The deceased, however, remembered the occasion the death message was brought to her home at Princeton. While in Illinois she was united with the Lutheran church thro baptism, and in later years after due instructions of the principal teachings of divine truth she renewed her baptismal promise in confirmation. To her church she remained faithful to her end.

On Oct. 28th, 1879 she was united in wedlock with J. Henry Hink and the couple made their future home on a farm in Chester township where after many years of toil and success, they retired to Grinnell for a well earned rest, 7 years ago.

The union was blessed with two daughters, Clara, now Mrs. Henry Luttmann of Chester Township and Emma, now Mrs. Fred Puls also of Chester and two sons Charley and Walter.

The deceased began to fail in health 3 years ago. Two weeks before her death, she concluded a journey to the Mayo Hospital of Rochester, Minn. On account of the weakened condition of her heart, an operation was not advisable. Mrs. Hink was summoned on May 18th at 5:30 in the morning, at the age of 62 years, 3 months and 16 days.

The mourners are her husband, the two daughters and sons above mentioned and 16 grandchildren; also two sisters Mrs.Laura Tyler and Mrs. Anna Wickman. Two brothers Henry and Otto Broders all of Malcom vicinity.

A large number came to attend the funeral of a well beloved mother and friend which was held Saturday at the Methodist church of Grinnell by Rev. O.C. Biermann. The relatives from far and near came to bring their last tribute of love. Grandma loved all dearly and petitioned for them in her last prayers. She longed to meet all on yonder shore.

We will miss her in the church circles as well as in the work of the Lutheran Ladies Aid. We know her death was her gain. She lived as a true Christian and died in firm faith for her Savior, Jesus. Her soul is with the Lord and the Saints forever-more.

Pallbearers were Henry and Delmar Luttmann, Fred Puls, Walter Hink, Chas. Hink and Albert Mehlin.
