OBITUARY.

JOHN HINK, SR.

Mr. John Hink, a pioneer resident of Poweshiek county, died at his home in Grinnell on Wednesday, Feb.12, at six o'clock.

John Hink was the son of Henry and Anna Hink, and was born in Hanover, Germany. In his early infancy he was baptized and in his boyhood confirmed in the Lutheran church. At the age of 28 he crossed the Atlantic and first settled in Henry county, Ill., working as a farm hand for three years near Geneseo. As he had heard glowing accounts of the west he wisely concluded to go West, and located in Poweshiek county in 1871 where he engaged in farming for 37 years. Old age and ill health caused him to retire from active work on the farm and in 1908 he moved to Grinnell. His marriage to Carolina Riedasch occurred in 1874. Nine children are left to mourn the death of a loving father--John, Harry, Hedwig and Sylvia Hink, Katharina Janssen, Elizabeth Petersen, Metta Kaisand, Franziska Dietrich, Wilhelmina Lemke.

Mr. Hink was an invalid for several years. About three weeks before his death he suffered from a stroke of apoplexy. He gradually became weaker till he quietly passed away.

For 39 years Mr. Hink was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church for which he maintained a deep interest until his death.

The funeral was held Friday morning. Interment was in the cemetery of the Lutheran church near Malcom. S.F. Salsmann conducted the services.
