SHIRLEY J. WINTERS

Shirley J. Winters, 59, of Grinnell died on Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Shirley Winters will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 8, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with the Rev. Tim Stewart, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Casket-bearers will include Jeff Davis, Patrick Garvin, Mike Harris, Brian Hoffmann, Alan Jepson, Heath Jepson, Ben McFarland and Chad Winters. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home starting at noon today (Thursday); the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

She was born Oct. 19, 1945, in Grinnell to Donald and Mildred Arment Cogley. She was raised here and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1963. She received a BS in chemistry from the University of Minnesota.

On May 5, 1968, she married Charlie Davis Winters in Grinnell. The couple lived in Des Moines, where she worked at Iowa Lutheran Medical Center and Des Moines General Hospital.

The family moved to Grinnell in 1976, and she worked as a lab technician at the Light and Ferguson Medical Clinic. She received a degree in business management from Drake University and went to work in the human resources center at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. At the time of her death, she was employed as director of human resources at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

She enjoyed cooking and hosting family and friends, especially during the holidays.

She is survived by a daughter, Debra Jepson of Grinnell; a son, Chad Winters of Grinnell; two grandchildren; and her mother, Mildred Cogley, also of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her father.
