MRS. W.H. SHAHAN

It was on one of those beautiful mornings of June when all nature was joyful that Lottie McIntire first saw the light of day, and the cheerfulness of nature became implanted in the very soul of the winning child. Born on the 15th day of June 1862 in Monroe county she continued to reside there with her parents Mr. and Mrs. C.J. McIntire for eight years, when she moved with them to a farm in Davis county. There her youth of healthful outdoor happiness was spent, but sorrow came and with her widowed mother she moved to Bloomfield where she lived for fifteen years. She was united in marriage with W.H. Shahan of this city on the 25th of Dec. 1899 and came to Grinnell to brighten his home. She had always enjoyed good health until about fifteen months ago, when that dread disease, consumption, which had claimed some members of the family, appeared and against its ravages she had battled bravely, but with christian fortitude, until death claimed her on the 17th inst. Her mother was with her during her illness, and did all that a mother could to make her last days pleasant.

Mrs. Shahan was a member of the United Brethren church at the time of her death. She was a prominent member of the Eastern Stars, who attended the funeral services in a body and decorated her casket with a beautiful floral tribute. A quartette from the order consisting of Mesdames Spooner, Norris, Case and Woodruff furnished music at the services, which were conducted by the Rev. S. Rowland Robinson, of the Baptist church.

She leaves, beside her devoted husband, her widowed mother, three brothers and one sister of whom her brothers T.J. McIntire of Bloomfield, and J.M. McIntire of Ottumwa were present at the funeral.
