MRS. SWECKER OF HARTWICK DIES

The people of Hartwick and community were deeply grieved and shocked Tuesday evening to learn of the death of Mrs. Charles Swecker. She was first taken ill Friday, and on Sunday the doctor was called. She grew steadily worse and died Tuesday evening from pneumonia.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Hartwick Congregational church. The Rev. Nelson Wehrhan of Grinnell, a former pastor, preached the sermon. The Rev. Mr. Holler of Brooklyn, and the Rev. Harold Putney of Hartwick assisted. The church was crowded to capacity and many were unable to get in to the service. Pall bearers were E.G. Hakeman, Fritz Roth, B.W. Grier, E.J. Korns, Clarence Possehl and T.K. Barber. Burial was made in the Hartwick cemetery.

Mrs. Swecker was the oldest daughter, Katie Ellen, of James and Harriet McIlrath, and at the time of her death was 56 years, 11 months and 20 days of age.

She was married Septemer 28, 1899, to Charles Swecker, and to this union four children were born, Wayne James, Charles Wilson, Mrs. Myrtle Minor and Mrs. Lois Bolen. She is also survived by her aged father, James McIlrath of Brooklyn, two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Wilson of Brooklyn and Mrs. Albert of California, four brothers, Alfred of Chicago, Merrill of California, Forrest of Brooklyn and Dave of Hartwick, a step-son, Rex Swecker of Detroit, and many friends.
