J.L. Whelan, of this city, hands us the following obituary notice of his brother, J.W. Whelan, a former resident of Grinnell, and well known here. It is from the Chronicle, Newton, Mo.:

Judson Willis Whelan was born near Elkhorn, Wis., July 25, 1867. When he was about two months old, his parents moved to Iowa, settling near Grinnell, where he grew to manhood. About six years ago he came to Mercer county, Mo., making his home with R.D. Robinson and family, where he departed this life, Dec. 26, 1917, aged 50 years, 5 months and 1 day. He leaves to mourn his loss an aged mother, who lives at Schaller, Iowa, one sister, Mrs. W.S. Canon, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and two brothers, A.F. Whelan, of Dodge City, Kas., and J.L. Whelan of Grinnell, and two daughters, who live at Schaller and Sioux City, Iowa. The two brothers had been at the bedside for the past two weeks. A host of friends will miss "Bill" as he was familiarly called by many. Interment was in Brantley cemetery, services being conducted by Rev. J.A. Newton, of this city.
