MARVIN EMMERT

Marvin Eugene Emmert, 61, of rural Grinnell died of a heart attack Sunday, Oct. 8, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell. The Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

The son of Lee and Mary Allen Emmert, he was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Grinnell. He was raised in Chester Township where he attended rural school. He later graduated from Newburg High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean conflict.

He was married to Phyllis McCulloch June 6, 1954, in Newburg, and the couple farmed in the Grinnell area. Mr. Emmert was a member of the Kellogg American Legion and the Jasper County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife; his mother; one son, Kirk of Grinnell; two daughters, Kimberly Novak and Karla VanderLeest, both of Grinnell; one brother, Willard of Grinnell; one sister, Shirley Starnes of Grinnell; a half-sister, Betty Jantzen of Malcom; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

A Marvin E. Emmert Memorial Fund has been established.
