We have received from W.O. Skiff, treasurer of Buena Vista Co., Iowa, the following notice in the Brookings Register of the death of L.H. Skiff:

"Louis Homer Skiff, was born in Jasper, Iowa, June 30th, 1858, and departed this life at his home in Brookings, March 10th, 1919, aged 60 years, 9 months and seven days. His boyhood days were spent on the farm near Grinnell, Ia., where his parents lived until he had grown to manhood. In the summer of 1879, attracted by the promise of the new country of Dakota, Mr. Skiff started for the west. He arrived in Flandreau by train and walked from here to Oakwood, the home of a brother. In the spring of 1880, he filed on a claim four miles east of Lake Preston. February 25th, 1881, he was united in marriage to Miss Sadie Jarman of Chester Center, Ia. Mr. and Mrs. Skiff at once started for their new home near Lake Preston, S.D., where they lived for 15 years. In the fall of 1895 they moved to Brookings where they have since made their home.

"During his residence in Brookings, Mr. Skiff was engaged in the hardware and plumbing business. He was a member of the Woodman and Workmen lodges. He united with the Congregational church when a young man and has been closely and actively identified with church life during all these years. When the family moved to Brookings they united with the Presbyterian church in which Mr. Skiff was an officer. For a number of years he was president of the board of trustees. He was a very loyal member of the church, always ready to do anything in his power to encourage the cause of Christianity. Mr. Skiff had been in failing health for more than a year and when a few months ago he suffered a relapse little hope was entertained for his recovery.

"He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and two daughters, Miss Hazel, who is at home, and Mrs. W.W. Binford. He also leaves one sister, Miss Nellie Skiff, four brothers, Will C., Storm Lake, Ia., N.H. of Minneapolis, Minn., Jessie of Baltimore, Md., and Clarencse of Buhl, Idaho. He also leaves a large circle of intimate friends who deeply sympathize with the family in this time of their sorrow. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., Rev. Wm. A. Mast officiating. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery."
