FRED OSBORNE'S USEFUL LIFE

Frederick Osborne was born in England Jan. 26, 1848. He came to America July 4, 1871, locating near Iowa City where he worked for two years on a farm. He came to Grinnell in 1873 and settled on a farm southeast of Grinnell and his home has been in that neighborhood since that time, until his death. The same year he was joined by his mother and a brother and sister.

In 1900 he was married to Mildred Jane Biddle at Niagara Falls, Canada. Three sons were born to this union, Noel of Marshalltown, Neal of this city and Gordon of Malcom. The wife and mother preceded him, dying on Oct. 4, 1913.

Last summer Mr. Osborne went on a visit to his old home in England where he visited many relatives and friends. Returning home he became seriously ill and when he landed at New York he was taken to St. Vincent's hospital where he died Jan. 6, 1932, at the age of 84 years.

He was a member of the Episcopal church before coming to America and continued his membership here until the organization discontinued holding services.

He is survived by three sons, Noel of Marshalltown, Neal of this city and Gordon of Malcom, also a brother Sam and a niece, Mrs. Henry Erickson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 o'clock from the Smith Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Robert Lincoln. Burial at Hazelwood.
