--Mrs. Cassie J. Dawson, who came here in January last with her husband J.M. Dawson, from Grinnell, Ia., committed suicide in a most lamentable manner yesterday afternoon. While her husband was in the garden and her niece, Miss Mira Smith, out shopping, she secured a clothes line, fastened one end to a high rack in the closet adjoining her bedroom, adjusted the noose while standing on a chair and deliberately hanged herself. The lifeless body was found by Mr. Dawson at 5 o'clock upon the return of Miss Smith from town. Mrs. Dawson left a note of farewell to her grief-stricken husband, and her rash act is attributed to recent illness and despondency resulting in temporary dementia. Mrs. Dawson was 57 years of age. The family was well known and quite well-to-do in their Iowa home. Coming to San Diego, Mr. Dawson purchased their home on Golden Hill with the intention of making this city his permanent residence.--San Diegan Sun, October 9.
