AUSTIN REYNOLDS IS MOURNED BY MANY FRIENDS

Austin Reynolds, son of Daniel Milton and Sarah Ann Reynolds, was born in Foster, Ill., June 7, 1859, and departed this life November 8, 1934, at his home 1013 Spring street, age 75 years, five months.

He was one of a family of six children, his four brothers and one sister having preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah A. Garrity Reynolds, to whom he was united in marriage April 24, 1878; four children, Jessie M. Reynolds, a nurse at University hospital, Iowa City; Cora L. Hummel, Carrie F. Shults, and one son, Daniel M. Reynolds, also one grandson, Kenneth D. Hummel, all of this city.

Austin, or "Doc" as he was more generally known, moved with his family to Iowa in 1900, to a farm near Kellogg, Iowa, and later moved to the Goodfellow farm northeast of Grinnell. After farming there for two years, he moved to Grinnell where he as employed in the wood working department of the Spaulding Manufacturing Co., for eleven years. For the past twenty years and until the time of his death, he was prominent in the monument business.

"Doc" Reynolds was known all over this part of the state, as a man of sterling character, and had a wide circle of friends by whom he will be greatly missed. His sense of humor and wit was never lacking, and up to the time of his death this characteristic conduct endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. He will be greatly missed by the younger generation, with whom he was a genial favorite, as he was always willing and ready to be the recipient of a joke, balancing the many he played on others.

In his family circle he was a kind and indulgent father, and this closeness and love of family was always noticed by all who knew him. His idea of life was the close and loving ties of his children and grandchild, and no day was complete to "Doc' until he was surrounded by his family, who had for him this same great and understanding love. He returned their love with one most intense and his interest was always unfailing when devoted their cause. A short separation from any one of them--even for a day or two, was to him a tragedy of life unsurmountable and few lives of fathers have been as complete in their family circle as the life of "Doc" Reynolds--now passed on.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. William Welsh were held from the home Saturday afternoon. The pallbearers were Paul Eastridge, Wendel Parmley, Paul Sloan, Glen Johnson, Harold Haines and Gordon Osborn.

Interment was in Hazelwood.
