LAST SERVICES FOR MRS. ELIZABETH SPRATT HELD THIS AFTERNOON

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Mary Spratt, who passed away early Thursday afternoon, were held at 2 p.m. today at the Smith funeral home in charge of Rev. W.J. Stewart. Organ selections were played by Edward Bohstedt. Pall bearers were Alex Manson, Clyde Matherly, Albert Neighbors and C.W. Reutter. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mrs. Spratt had reached the age of 77 years and had made her home in Grinnell for 25 years, moving here from Waterloo. For the past few years she has been housekeeper in the Theodore Risse home. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William Uhde of Waterloo, two brothers, John McLain of Mohall, N. Dak., and Alexander McLain of Irvington, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Bert Swanson of Kirkwood, Ill., and Mrs. A.S. Coop of Grinnell.

Elizabeth Mary McLain Spratt was born October 26, 1874 to Samuel and Mary Jackson McLain in Newtownards, County Down, Ireland and passed away July 10, 1952 at 12:55 p.m. at the Community hospital, from a heart attack, suffered the previous day. Her health had been good except minor ailments the past 2 years.

She was one of a family of 12 children, and came to this county as a child with her parents and settled on a farm near Brooklyn and Barnes City. Her life was spent in Grinnell, Marshalltown, Waterloo and surrounding vicinity. She is well remembered for running a popcorn stand by many of her friends.

She was married to Willard Woods and 3 children were born to this union. She later was married to William Spratt.

She had no church affiliation but took an active part in several churches and her Christian ideals were ever present in thought and deed for her family and friends, and to have known her was a privilege.

She had made her home on North Reed St. as housekeeper for T.H. Risse for over 18 years, and seemed like one of the family.
