MRS CASSIE BURROUGHS BARTLETT

--It is with the deepest regret that we to-day chronicle the death early Saturday morning of one of Grinnell's choicest and brightest young women, Mrs. Cassie Burroughs Bartlett. Born March 31, 1866, Mrs. Bartlett was yet in the flower of womanhood. She had grown up in Grinnell, had attended our schools, and in college belonged to the class of '88, lacking but one year of graduating. The evening of Nov. 6, 1889, Cassie Burroughs became Mrs. Bartlett. Foremost in all good works, modest, unassuming, and true to every womanly instinct she constantly exemplified in her life the beauty and simplicity of an earnest christian character. Strong and vigorous she gave every promise of a long and useful life. But the tender bands that held her to earth were suddenly snapped asunder and this afternoon loving hands will tenderly lay her away for her final rest in Hazelwood. But a few short hours before she died a little son was born into the world, the joy that followed his arrival being suddenly turned into mourning, that a joyous, earnest womanly life should be demanded for that of the new born babe. In his great affliction Mr. Bartlett will have the fullest sympathy of hosts of friends, who mourn with him the deep sadness of her loss. All that remains of the loving young woman will find a resting place in Hazelwood, but the memory of her earnest christian life will long last as a benediction to friends who admired her quiet beauty and simplicity of character.
