MYRTLE GUYER RITES FRIDAY

Mrs. Myrtle M. Guyer, 86, of 616 Harrison Ave., Grinnell, the widow of Byron M. Guyer, died early Tuesday morning, Mar. 26, at Grinnell General Hospital.

The daughter of Joseph and Berdella Bean Workman, she was born Jan. 11, 1888, in Moulton, Iowa. She attended local schools.

On Dec. 25, 1906, she was married to Byron Mason Guyer in Denmark, Iowa, and the couple had nine children; five of whom survive: Mrs. Clarice Rivers of Grinnell, Harry H. Guyer of Grinnell, Elvion Guyer of New Sharon, Gerald Guyer of Milwaukee, Wis., and Mrs. Harold (Clovis) Hollmann of Grinnell. four children--Ralph, Dale and Roy Guyer and Mrs. Della Meldrem--preceded her in death.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Guyer homesteaded in Coffee Creek, Mont. In 1918, they moved to Poweshiek County, making their home in Malcom and later in Brooklyn. Mr. Guyer was a fireman for the Milwaukee and M. and St. L. railroads, in 1929, they moved to Grinnell, where they had made their home since. Mr. Guyer died May 5, 1958.

Survivors include her five children, 32 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Pearl) Wahner of Grinnell and Mrs. Violet Stoltz of New Sharon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryon; her three sons and one daughter; six great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Albert Workman; and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Newton and Mrs. Aily (Pansy) Hicks.

Funeral services for Mrs. Guyer will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29, at the Grinnell First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shively, pastor of the church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner and vocalist will be Mrs. Wayne Dayton. Pallbearers will be Mike Brown, Pat Brown, Bennie Crawford, Richard Crawford, Jay Stevenson and Tom Stevenson. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
