PEARL WAHNER

Pearl M. Wahner, 94, of Grinnell died Sunday, May 6, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce Feruerbach, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Music was provided by Nancy Sears, organist, and Cynthia Christopher, vocalist.

Pallbearers were Don Fleener, Steve Harbin, Chuck Wakeley, and James, Timothy and William Wahner. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church or to St. Francis Manor.

The daughter of Joseph and Birdella Viola Bean Workman, she was born Nov. 25, 1895, at Glenelder, Kan. She moved to Fort Madison in 1897 and to Brooklyn in 1907. The family farmed near Brooklyn and she attended rural school there.

She was married to Alfred Wahner Sept. 23, 1913, in Des Moines. The couple farmed northwest of Brooklyn and later lived in Kansas for five years. They returned to Iowa and farmed near Grinnell, retiring in 1962 and moving into Grinnell. Mrs. Wahner attended the Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Vera Van Wyngarden of Malcom, Dorothy Fleener of Grinnell, Verna Harbin of Des Moines, Alfred Wahner Jr. of Cedar Falls and Shirley Harrelson of Newton; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Violet Stoltz of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Richard; six grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde and Albert Workman; and three sisters, Myrtle Guyer, Pansy Hicks and Martha Newton.
