E.L. MAYO DIES AT 75

E.L. Mayo, 75, of 1413 Eighth Ave., Grinnell, professor emeritus of English at Drake University, died of heart failure Tuesday afternoon at his home.

He had willed his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Porter French officiating.

The son of Crosby L. and Abigail C. Harvey Mayo, he was born July 26, 1904, at Dorchester, Mass. He completed both undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Minnesota and Amherst College before joining the Drake faculty.

He was the author of four books of poetry, "The Diver," "The Center Is Everywhere," "Summer Unbound," and "Collected Poems," and had contributed to several poetry anthologies and other publications.

Survivors include his wife, Myra; his children, Mary Mayo of Oakland, Calif., Alice Breemer of Grinnell and John Mayo of Des Moines; five grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis Barkley of Stratford, Ontario.
