LILLIE TICE

Lillie Mathilda Tice, 93, of Grinnell died Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Yungclas officiating. Organist will be Alice Renaud, and soloist will be Steve Fritz. Pallbearers will be Dale, Denny, Henry, Tom and Walter Harris; Larry Niswander; David Price; and Tom Sears. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.

The daughter of Thomas and Carolina "Lena" Schmidt Harris, she was born June 4, 1905, in Grinnell. She was raised in Chester Township where she attended school. She also attended Iowa State University, then taught in rural schools for seven years.

She was married to Harold Tice May 26, 1928. They farmed in Chester Township until their retirement, later moving to Grinnell. Mrs. Tice had been a resident of the Mayflower since September 1994.

She was a member of the Chester Congregational United Church of Christ, serving as the church's historian for 40 years. She also served as an organist and pianist for the church.

She was a member of the Newburg-Chester Women's Fellowship and a former president of the PTA.

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Smith of Newton and Dorothy Crooks of Boone; one brother, Glenn Harris of Grinnell; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Frank, Raymond, Harvey and Merle Harris; and two sisters, Esther Sears and one in infancy.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Tice's name may be made to the Mayflower.
