LEONA FAYE HARRIS

Leona Faye Harris, 91, of Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck, formerly of Grinnell, died Saturday, Jan. 25, at the manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester United Church of Christ, officiating. Organist will be Alice Renaud.

Pallbearers will be Dale, Dennis, Henry, Tom, Walt and Chris Harris and Tom Sears. Honorary bearers will be Doris, Betty, Shirley, Betty, Sandy and Jill Harris and Margaret Sears. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.

The daughter of John Clark and Blanche Meek Antisdel, she was born Aug. 13, 1905, near Milford. She was a 1924 graduate of Milford High School and a 1928 graduate of Iowa State University with a B.A. in home economics. She taught for several years at Lakeview.

She was married to Raymond Harris Nov. 30, 1930, in Ames. They farmed in Chester Township for 51 years. Mrs. Harris moved to the Mayflower shortly after the death of her husband in 1981. She had been a resident of Parkview Manor since December 1992.

She was a member of the Newburg-Chester United Church of Christ, where she held numerous offices, and was a member of the Women's Fellowship. She also was active in 4-H, the Poweshiek County Farm Bureau and the Sonora Grange. She was a volunteer at Grinnell Regional Medical Center for many years and was involved with the Chester Township Red Cross for over 50 years. While living at the Mayflower she was active in several organizations and was a former president of the Mayflower Home Residents Association.

Surviving are two daughters, Joy Thiel of Reinbeck and Carol Schafer of Waterloo; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Clark and John, both in infancy; and one sister, Lola Robinson.

Memorials may be made to Grinnell Regional Medical Center or her church.
