JOHN CULLEN SERVICES HELD

John R. Cullen, 60, of 1211 West St., died Monday morning, March 6, at Grinnell General Hospital a few hours after admission.

The son of Harold and Emma Smith Cullen, he was born April 3, 1911, at Dubuque. He attended the Dubuque public schools and was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School.

He was employed for a total of 32 years at the Key City Gas Company of Dubuque and Iowa Southern Utilities Company of Grinnell. He has lived in Grinnell the past 16 years, and for the past five years he was employed in the engineering department of the city of Grinnell.

Mr. Cullen was married to Ruth Sippel Aug. 25, 1950, at Dubuque. He was a member of the Episcopal Church at Dubuque and was a past member of the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; his daughter Susan Ann, a student at Central College in Pella; a sister, Mrs. John (Mary) Middents of Plattsmouth, Neb.; and a nephew, John Middents of Anamosa. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Mr. Cullen were held Wednesday, March 8, at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Middents, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church of Plattsmouth, officiating. Organist was Doris Nothnagel, and pallbearers incuded Ted Clausen, Verl Garwood, Donald Louden, Arthur Esslinger, Harold Schmidt and Floyd Sharp.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
