Lodema Story Rites Friday

Lodema E. Story of Rte. 1, Tama, died Tuesday noon, Dec. 1, at Grinnell General Hospital, following an illness of the past two years.

The daughter of Isaac and Nora Gooch Griffin, she was born on Jan. 26, 1912, near Newburg. She started her education at the Rock Creek school and completed it at the Malcom public schools.

On Aug. 3, 1935, she was married to Vaughn E. Story at the Methodist parsonage in Malcom. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Malcom community. In 1936, they moved to Grinnell, where Mrs. Story was employed at the shoe factory. They moved to Belle Plain in 1943, and in 1945 they moved to Tama. She was employed at the button factory at Toledo.

Mrs. Story was a member of the Rebekah Lodge at Tama.

She is survived by her husband; her son Robert and daughter-in-law, Thelma of Montour; six grandchildren, Debra, Diane, Eugene, Ellen Julia and David; two sisters, Mrs. James McNaul of Grinnell and Mrs. Ronnie Baird of Montezuma; a brother Vern Griffin of Grinnell; her nieces and nephews; two half-sisters, Mrs. Alfred Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mrs. Robert Stemsrude of Grinnell; a half-brother, Clyde Griffin of Washington, Iowa; a step-brother, Harold Pierce of Montezuma; a step-sister, Mrs. Lowell Roberts of Rockford, Ill.; and her step-mother, Mrs. Viola Griffin of Montezuma.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a half-sister.

Funeral services for Mrs. Story will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at the James-Schalinake Funeral Home. with the Rev. Hugh A Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.
