Bernice Smith services held

Bernice B. Smith, 69, of Malcom died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 17 at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted today at 10 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glenn H. Hulsebuss, pastor of the Malcom-Sheridan parish, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Daryl Hall, Robert Rainey, Preston Shaw, Chris Story, Garry Story, and Roy Story. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Mark Otto and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Tindle.

Burial was at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The daughter of Earl B. and Elizabeth Martha Erickson Story, she was born May 30, 1914, at Malcom. She attended Malcom schools. On Sept. 14, 1935, she was married to Pearley B. Smith in Montezuma. The couple lived in the Malcom community and for a time she was employed at Swift and Co. and Fudge's Produce, both of Grinnell.

She is survived by her children, Darlene McDowell of Malcolm, William E. Smith of Cayucos, Calif., Jack E. and Jim W. Smith, both of Roland, Earl J. Smith of Marion, and Jerry L. and Keith A. Smith, both of Malcom; two great-grandchildren and one brother, Earl B. Story of Malcom.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; her parents; a grandchild; and three brothers and one sister, Ernest D. Story, Frederick J. Story, Donald R. Story and Leota Story, who died in infancy.
