FUNERAL OF A.A. HURR HELD SUN.
Arthur Albert Hurr, son of Isaac E. and Mary Eckley Hurr was born near Victoria, Illinois December 4th, 1869, and departed this life June 5th, 1931, age 61 years, six months, and one day
He was united in marriage to Elnora Olivia Newstrom March 14th, 1893. To this union four children were born, one son, Harry L. of Grinnell, and three daughters, Mrs. Harry Richardson of Grinnell, Mrs. Monroe Clark of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Robert Staley of Centerville. There are also seven grandchildren, and five sisters and brothers who with the wife and mother mourn this loss.
Early in life Mr. Hurr worked at farming but later turned to the baker's trade, at which he has since worked for forty years. For a number of years Mr. Hurr was in business in Ottumwa, later selling out and coming to Grinnell. With Mr. Richard Kinnick he purchased the Grinnell bakery, at that time located on Commercial street. Several years later Mr. Hurr became sole owner, and about two years ago moved his shop to the new modern building on North Main erected for him by Grinnell College.
About a year ago he became ill, and although nothing serious was anticipated yet he never regained his health. About two or three months ago his eyesight failed him and he lost his vision entirely. During the two or three months in which he was more or less confined to bed, he was patient through it all. He was a man upright in all his dealings, and honest as the day is long.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock from the Baptist church in charge of Rev. Wm. Welsh. Burial was at Ottumwa with the Grinnell Masons having charge.
Singers were Mr. Howard Hyde and Mrs. John Carter who sang "Some Day We'll Understand" and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought."
Pall bearers were: Grant Ramsey, George Kelley, Glenn Johnston, John Mehlin, Dr. J.W. Souter, and F.F. Clindinin.
Masons who attended the servives at Ottumwa were: O. Dale Smith, John Thompson, Tom Eastridge, George Clifton, O.E. Niffenegger, E.L. York, Eddie Peterson, A.F. Swaney, Homer Lowrey, Walter Wright, and O.S. Snyder.
