MRS. GLADYS GREGORY
Gladys Ballard was born May 23, 1890, in Correctionville, Woodbury County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles E. and Minnie McCulloch, Ballard.
She attended schools in Eldora and Grinnell and prior to her marriage taught school for a time. In Grinnell, she was employed by the telephone company holding the position of chief operator, and in this capacity formed many lasting friendships. Her cheery disposition was also known to many through her work in the White Spot Restaurant.
Gladys Ballard was married January 2, 1909 to Robert C. Ashing. To this union were born two sons, Raymond L. Ashing of Longmont, Colorado, and Floyd Robert Ashing of Des Moines. She was married a second time June 6, 1926 to Cullen Gregory. Mr. Gregory died May 27, 1944.
Mrs. Gregory died very suddenly April 4, 1955, leaving to mourn their loss, her mother, Mrs. Minnie Rowe with whom she made her home; a brother, Ralph Ballard of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Ballard Robinson of Algona; her sons, Raymond and Floyd; a granddaughter Myrna Miller; a grandson Thomas Floyd Ashing. Another grandson, Robert James Ashing, preceded her in death. There are two great grandsons Billy Ray and Michael Brent Miller.
Mrs. Gregory was an enthusiastic and faithful member of the Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Congregational Church.
She was a devoted daughter, mother and friend. The interest and well being of her family was her first consideraton.
Among those from out-of-town attending funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Gregory on Wednesday afternoon were her two sons, Floyd Ashing and family of Des Moines, and Raymond Ashing and family of Longmont, Colo.; her brother Ralph Ballard and family of Redwood Falls, Minn.; and her sister, Mrs. Lou Robinson of Algona. A granddaughter, Mrs. Wm. Miller and husband and two children of Longmont, Colo.; a niece, Mrs. Leo Elmore and family of Algona; an uncle H.H.McCulloch of Newburg; and an aunt, Mrs. Geo. Lane and Mr. Lane of Newburg were also present.
