MRS. LAURA R. BIXBY, FORMER GRINNELLIAN, DIES IN CALIFORNIA

A former Grinnellian, Mrs. Laura Rew Bixby, 89, died in California last Wednesday after a short illness. She had lived in southern California for the past 23 years.

Member of an old Grinnell family, Mrs. Bixby received a Conservatory of Music diploma from Grinnell College in 1889. She was a member of the Grinnell College faculty as instructor in violin and history of music form 1899 to 1906.

During the year 1905-06, Mrs. Bixby served as acting dean of women at the college.

Her husband, William S. Bixby, was also from an old Grinnell family. He died in 1939.
