HARRY R. HERMANSTORFER, 89

Harry R. Hermanstorfer, 89, of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Brooklyn Community Estates, Brooklyn.

Funeral services for Harry Hermanstorfer were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2005, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn.

The Rev. David Rogula, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiated. The musician was Marilyn Kriegel, and the soloist was Mary Jo Seaton. Special selections were "The Old Rugged Cross," "In The Garden" and "Daddy's Hands."

Honorary casket bearers were Jeff Hermanstorfer, Nicholas Goodrich, Chris Hermanstorfer, Benjamin Goodrich, Rick Bub and Gabriel Goodrich.

Casket bearers were Gary Blain, Marvin Korns, John LaKose, Kenneth Wilkins, Wallace Cleppe, and Donald Hermanstorfer. Interment was in Indianapolis Cemetery, rural What Cheer.

A memorial fund has been established.

Harry Rinaldo Hermanstorfer was born July 26, 1915, on a farm near Keswick, Iowa. His parents were George Hermanstorfer and Gertrude Hale Hermanstorfer.

Harry received his education at Keswick. On October 3, 1937, Harry married Beulah Faye Piersel at Storm Lake. They were the parents of two children, Larry and Sherrie.

Harry was a farmer and in March 1956, he and Beulah moved to a farm west of Brooklyn, coming from What Cheer. Also, he owned and operated Harry's DX on the corner of Hwy. 6, drove a Standard bulk truck for Ernest Andes and later for Norman DeGeeter, and was a school bus driver for BGM Schools.

Beulah died March 27, 1973.

On April 7, 1974, he married Helen Nelson at Rock Island, Illinois. They made their home in Brooklyn.

Mr. Hermanstorfer was a member of the Methodist Church at Keswick and the Madison Church of Christ, Brooklyn.

Harry's favorite hobby was raising horses and breaking horses for people to ride. He loved gardening, taking care of the lawn and fruit trees, and playing pool. He loved keeping busy and working dusk till dawn. After retiring, he built grandfather clocks and refinished furniture.

His parents; his first wife Beulah; a son Larry; a daughter-in-law Lenda; a brother Vernon Hermanstorfer; and two grandsons, Brian and Eric Hermanstorfer, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Helen; a daughter, Sherrie Witte, and husband Leland of Belle Plaine; three sisters, Norma Wolfe of Harper, Lucille Wilkins of Barnes City and Kathryn Cuppy of Long Grove, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jeff Hermanstorfer, Chris Hermanstorfer, Kimberly Bub, Nicholas Goodrich, Benjamin Goodrich and Gabriel Goodrich; seven great-grandchildren; three stepsons, David Graham Jr. of Litchfield, Illinois, and Les Nelson and Larry Nelson, both of St. George, Utah; one stepdaughter, Helen Muir of Waterloo; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
