DEATH OF PROMINENT RESIDENT OF MALCOM

W.E. Champion Died at Granite City, at Home of His Son, on Wednesday, April 7th.

W.E. Champion, an old and prominent resident of Malcom, died at the home of his son, Wm. Champion, in Granite City, on Wednesday, April 7, 1909, at the age of 82. He was born in St. Balades, England, in 1827, and was sixteen years of age when he moved to this country. He was prominent in mercantile and political circles in Malcom till he retired from business thirty years ago. His health has been failing him for some time. Last fall, with his wife, he went to Granite City to spend the winter with their children. A week ago he was stricken with paralysis and died. The remains were brought to Malcom April 8th for interment. He is survived by a widow and five sons and three daughters. The sons are William and Edward Champion, Merchants at Granite City, Judge Lee Champion of Denver, judge of the Eleventh judicial district of Colorado; Ex-Mayor Warren Champion of Madison, Illinois, and Harry F. Champion, a mine superintendent at Florence, Colorado. The daughters are Mrs. M.G. Stone of Kemit, California; Mrs. C.F. Molone of Francis, Washington, and Mrs. C. Pauley of Edwardsville, Illinois.
