THELMA SLECHTA, 56
Thelma Jean Slechta, 56, of Montezuma, died Saturday, July 25, 1998 at her home.
The funeral will be Thursday, July 30, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma. Jim Kerr will officiate.
Casket bearers are Dave Rote, Randy Scull, Chris Seaton, Pat Seaton, Kenny Kensler and Larry Sanders. "In the Garden," "Mansion Over the Hilltop" and "Precious Memories" will be the musical selections.
Burial will follow in the Garrett Cemetery in Delta.
Visitation will be after 9 a.m. on Wednesday with the family present Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Thelma was born December 15, 1941 in Poweshiek County. Her parents were Clayton L. and Mary Opal (Vought) Tish. She graduated from Montezuma High School in 1960 and in 1961, she married William Bud Fox.
Later divorced, the couple had three children.
On November 22, 1977, she married Vernon Slechta. He died December 13, 1977.
Thelma lived in Oklahoma for several years before moving to Montezuma in 1988. She did housekeeping and cleaning for people.
Her hobbies were camping with her family and bird-watching at Diamond Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon; a grandson, Daniel Beadle and a brother, Donald Tish.
She is survived by two sons, David Fox of Rose Hill and Kevin Fox and his wife, Stacey, of New Sharon; a daughter, Marilyn Beadle and son-in-law, Willie Visser of New Sharon; a step-daughter, Debbie Reese of Rose Hill; a step-son, Laverne Slechta of Rose Hill; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, five sisters, Orpha Mabeus of Weaver, Mildred Bringmann of Williamsburg, Iva Tinkle of Malcom, Agnes Riley of Montezuma and Kathryn Sellers of Deep River; other relatives and many friends.
