FUNERAL SERVICES SET TUESDAY FOR FRED WHITTAKER, 80
Fred J. Whittaker, 80 of 825 Pearl St., died Friday evening at a local hospital. About a week earlier, he had fallen and broken an arm.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Lester Williams, pastor of the Calvary Baptist church, officiating. Vocal music will be provided by Mrs. J. Lester Williams, accompanied by Mrs. Leonard Pearce at the organ.
Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Worcester, Raymond Selle, Howard Thompson, Shirley Sisco, Carl Child, and Mr. M.E. Massengale. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery.
Born at Burlington on July 28th, 1883, he was the son of John Sterling Whittaker and Minerva Harper Whittaker. In 1937, he was united in marriage with Gertrude James of Bethany, Mo. She resides at the family home.
Also surviving are his two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Lela) Gidner of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Larry (Mary) Howard of Fairbanks, Alaska; one son, Harry Whittaker of Yakima, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and one half-brother.
For several years he had been employed as a grocery clerk at the North Market and McNally's. Later, he clerked for 10 years at the Monroe Hotel.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge and had joined the Methodist church many years ago.
