MR. EMMERT RITES TODAY

Lowell R. Emmert, 69, of 527 Twelfth Ave. died Friday evening at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lawrence P. Fitzpatrick, pastor of the Malcom United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Fraternal rites will be conducted by Bill Heim, exalted ruler; Harry Bitcon, chaplain; and members of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1266. Burial will be at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The son of Andrew and Lela Drew Emmert, he was born Feb. 18, 1908, at Newton. On May 22, 1928, he was married to Irene Garwood at Grinnell. The couple had three children. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Emmert lived in Hartwick before moving to Malcom to farm.

Mrs. Emmert died in 1964.

On June 8, 1965, Mr. Emmert was married to Frances Pohlman at Alexandria, Minn. They continued to farm near Malcom until 1974 when they moved to Grinnell.

Mr. Emmert was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1266, the Tama Eagles Lodge, and was past president of the Poweshiek County Angus Association.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; his children, Dale Emmert of Grinnell, Richard Emmert of Malcom, and Mrs. Pat Dunnette of St. Paul, Minn.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Harold (Betty) Jaantzen of Malcom; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one step-great-grandchild; and three brothers, Ted Emmert of Killduff and Earl and Everett Emmert, both of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one brother, Lee Emmert; and a sister, Mrs. Clifford (Dorothy) Baker.

Should friends desire, memorials in Mr. Emmert's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Mrs. Wayne Reams of Grinnell.
