H. BARBARA ANTHONY

H. Barbara Anthony, 57, of Rte. 2, Tama, died of a heart ailment Monday, Jan. 27, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Sheridan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Melinda Cree officiating. Organist was Barbara Graham, and vocalist was Cindy Anthony. Pallbearers were Duane Arment Raymond Graham, Dale Johnson, Malcom Mayo, Donald Parker and Dan Slagle.

Burial was in Sheridan Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Eugene and Helen Thompson Barnes, she was born April 29, 1934, in Cook County, Ill. She was a graduate of Highland Park High School. Following her education, she worked as a legal secretary.

She was married to Alwyn Conner, and the couple lived in Pennsylvania, later moving to Sheridan Township. On Dec. 21, 1976, she was married to Charles Anthony in Tama. The couple continued to live in the Sheridan community where they farmed. Mrs. Anthony was a member of the Sheridan United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, and she was a Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are her husband, Charles; her stepmother, Ruby Barnes of Brookline, Mass.; four sons, Michael Conner of Beatty, Nev., David Conner of St. Louis, Daniel Conner of Council Bluffs and Matthew Conner of Waukee; a stepson, Philip Anthony of O'Fallon, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Kathleen Thorman of Chesterfield, Mo., and Carol Zhorne of Tama; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Bernard Paul Barnes of Phoenix, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents.
