MRS. E. BEATTIE DIES THURSDAY; RITES ARE TODAY

Blanche Beattie died Thursday evening, May 9 at a local hospital where she had been a patient since May 1.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the First United Presbyterian church with the Rev. Samuel C. Picken of Winterset and the Rev. Hugh M. Milen of Carlisle officiating.

Soloist was Mrs. Maynard Long and organ accompaniment was by Mrs. Eugene Holley. Pallbearers were Craig Stanley, Eugene Holley, Lester Hill, James Van Arkel, Millard Farmer and George Lincoln.

Honorary pallbearers were M.O. Stanley, C.L. Braley and William Jeffrey. Interment will be at the Johnstown Center cemetery at Johnston Center, Wisc.

Additional services will be held Tuesday from the United Presbyterian church at Janesville, Wis.

Born on January 26, 1892, near Arispe, she was the daughter of George and Lydia McCartney. She was educated in the public schools of Shannon City and Malvern. Mrs. Beattie held a B.L. degree from Tarkio college in 1918 and a B.A. degree from Iowa State Teachers in 1921.

She had taught school for 10 years, in Shannon City, Storm Lake and Ottumwa high schools.

On June 20th, 1923 she was married to Ernest E. Beattie. They were the parents of one son, William of Buffalo, N.Y. who survives. Her husband and one grandson also survive.

Soon after marriage, Rev. and Mrs. Beattie served as missionaries to Punjab, India (now Pakistan). Following their return from the mission fields in 1929, pastorates were held at Rock Prairie and Janesville, Wis.; Alexis, Ill.; Long Beach, Calif.; Albia and for the past three and one-half years in Grinnell.
