David Paul, resident of Grinnell for the past 16 years, passed away at his home, 1127 Summer street, at 3:30 o'clock Monday morning. He had reached the advanced age of 78 years.

Mr. Paul had been in poor health over a period of years but it was not until a few days before Christmas that his last serious illness seized him. About three weeks ago he suffered a slight stroke and his condition gradually grew worse until life departed early yesterday morning.

He was born in Ireland and came to the United States in 1865, settling on a farm, in Scott county. Later he moved to the Barrett community in Jasper county and from there to a tract of land near Gilman. He lived in Chicago several years also.

When his health began to fail he went to Colorado and the last of his life was spent in an effort to regain his former strength. He paid three visits to his native home in Ireland during this time. In 1907 he moved to Grinnell from Newton.

Mr. Paul is survived by his wife and two sons, George and Francis. The latter, who is a student at Ames, was called home last Wedneday when his father's condition grew worse.

Funeral services will be held from the home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. W.W. Woodburn will conduct the services and interment will be made at Gilman.
