RITES HELD FOR MRS. PARISH

Bessie M. Parish, 97, of Grinnell died Saturday at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Dr. Walter Samp of Winterset officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Charles and Melissa Haskin Ricker, she was born Aug. 20, 1879 at Winterset. She was graduated from Grundy Center High School and attended Grinnell College from 1897 to 1898. On June 17, 1903, she was married to Edwin S. Parish in Grinnell.

Mrs. Parish was a member of the W.S.C.S., the Searchlight Club, and the Ewart and Grinnell United Methodist churches. She was active in church affairs and taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Charles (Virginia) Van Werden of Winterset, Paul R. Parish of Tahuya, Wash., Mrs. W.C. (Rachel) Jones of Moscow, Idaho, Mrs. G.M. (Gwendolen) Minton of Lewiston, Idaho, and William R. Parish of Moscow, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles F. Ricker of Walnut Creek, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1955, her parents, and two brothers, Roy and Frank Ricker.

Should friends desire, memorials in Mrs. Parish's name may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church.
