MRS. MARY ELIZABETH FRISBIE

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Frisbie, widow of Daniel G. Frisbie, passed away at 5:30 o'clock last Friday evening at the Frisbie home just south of town, at the advanced age of 87 years, 10 months and 21 days. For several months her health had gradually declined before the advance of extreme old age. The end came peacefully after a day in which she had seemed to be as well as usual.

Funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T.O. Douglass, in accordance with the wish of the deceased, they were of the simplest possible character. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mrs. Frisbie, with her husband, came to Iowa at a very early date, settling in Mitchell, Mitchell county, in 1854. Here they made their home for twenty years. Their daughter, Josephine, attended college in Grinnell and graduated with the class of 1867. In Mitchell, Dr. and Mrs. Frisbie were intimate with the S.A. Cravath family. When Dr. and Mrs. Cravath moved to Grinnell it was not long until Dr. and Mrs. Frisbie decided to follow. They bought their home place south of town and were just preparing to move when their only daughter, Josephine, and one son, Charles, fell ill of typhoid fever. The disease in each case was fatal, the funerals occurring on consecutive Sundays. Dr. Douglass, who had charge of the services last Sunday was the minister at those two funerals years ago.

Mrs. Frisbie never recovered from the shock which she sustained in the loss of her children and has been able to go out but little since coming to Grinnell, in 1874. Dr. Frisbie was active in the life of Grinnell for many years and after his death, Mrs. Frisbie continued to make her home with her son, O.T. Frisbie, on the home place. She is survived by her son and four grandchildren, Dr. Charles B., George and Sherman Frisbie, all of Portland, Oregon, and Mary Frisbie, of Grinnell.

In her life at Mitchell, before coming to Grinnell, Mrs. Frisbie was active and helpful in all good things. She was prominent in the church and social life of the community, a good wife and a devoted mother. It was not until after she moved to Grinnell that bodily infirmity and heavy sorrow caused her retirement from active life.
