SYLVESTER LINSTED

Sylvester Linsted, who lived in the very southwest of Poweshiek, died Tuesday, July 12, at the home where he had lived for 64 years.

Alonzo Sylvester Linsted was born in Gardner, Maine, on February 14, 1850, a son of Alfred P. and Mary Comstock Linsted, the father a native of Boston and the mother of Great Derrington, Massachusetts.

When only 7 years of age he came with his parents to Iowa and located on a farm in Sugar Creek Township, his father having purchased the farm from the government the previous year.

Here he lived and worked with his father until 1870 when in December he married Sarah Rebecca Kelley and located their home on his farm one and one-half miles northeast of Taintor.

His death occurred on Tuesday, July 12, 1921, at 3:30 a.m., at his home, leaving to survive him, the three children, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, A.H. Linsted and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Lowry, who all together mourn the loss of the head of the family which he founded.
