Newspaper Obituary dated Dec. 16, 1924

P.M. GROSS LIVED MANY YEARS IN COUNTY

Pleasant Monroe Gross was born in Yadkin county, North Carolina, August 27, 1846, and departed this life after a lingering illness of several weeks duration, December 11, 1924.

He was the son of Daniel and Elizabeth Gross.

He came to Iowa with his parents when four years of age and grew to manhood on a farm near Montezuma.

He was married in 1899 to Miss Frances Sparks of Elkin, North Carolina.

To this union was born one son, Leonard Sparks Gross, now of New York City, and unable to be present at the funeral.

He moved to Grinnell in 1920 where he has since made his home. Besides his wife and son he leaves two sisters, Mrs. James Burchby of Albia and Mrs. Rockwell of New Sharon, besides numerous relatives and friends to mourn his loss. He became a member of the Little Mount Baptist church when a young man where he still retains his membership. He was a kind and generous friend and neighbor, and only those who know him best can testify to his bigness of heart. But God called and he answered the summons, "Come unto me all ye that labor and I will give you rest."

The funeral was held at the home at Tenth Avenue and Elm street Saturday afternoon at 1:30, conducted by Rev. E.W. Gregson, an old friend of the family, assisted by Rev. C.A. Carman. Mr. Gregson's text was 32:29 Deuteronomy.

A quartet composed of Mr. Carman, Ed Bohstedt, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Carter sang, "I Am Going Home," and "The Lord Is My Shepherd."

Burial was at Montezuma.
