MRS. ASHING WAS ONE OF PIONEERS

Sarah F. Powers was born in Dayton, Ohio, November 9, 1841, and died at her home near Searsboro, Iowa, September 6, 1927, aged 85 years, 9 months and 27 days.

She was married to John W. Ashing in 1859. To this union were born five children, the oldest daughter dying in infancy and Margaret twenty-one years ago. There still survive Tabitha and Lucretia at home, and William of Grinnell, besides many relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

Her husband preceded her July 15, 1925.

She was the last member of the Powers family of eight children. She was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Powers. She has lived at the old home for over sixty years, going through the hard experience of the pioneers. In early life she united with the West Liberty church near her home and has remained loyal to the faith thru the years.

She was a most devoted mother, faithful to her home and family and loyal to all her responsibilities in life. We will miss her and may we be as faithful to our duties along the way.

Services were conducted by Rev. Glenwood Stanley, at the West Liberty church and burial was at that place.
