The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Oct. 31, 1882

--William May, familiarly known as "Billy May," died at Lackey's last Saturday morning. On the Tuesday afternoon previous, having run short of whiskey and wishing to use something to quiet his nerves, he called at Dr. Bodle's drug store and obtained a prescription of morphine and bromide of potass - getting a six-ounce vial filled to be taken in spoonful doses, and containing 24 doses, or enough to last three days at least. As a result he went into a torpid, semi-unconscious condition, from which he did not recover until death came to his relief. May was said to be a fine mechanic, and came here after the *tornado to work at his trade. He had just been at work on the walls of Mr. C.F. Craver's house. He was an Englishman, and his friends are said to live in Canada.
