FRED VAN ZUUK

Fred J. Van Zuuk, 90, of Grinnell died Friday, April 12, at Grinnnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Del Coppinger of Oskaloosa and the Rev. Keith Briggs of Grinnell officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and vocalist was Keith Briggs. Pallbearers were Mr. Van Zuuk's nieces and nephews. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Leighton.

Memorials in his name may be made to Quakerdale or to the Mayflower Home and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Albert and Elizabeth Brower Van Zuuk, he was born April 7, 1901, near Reasnor. The family moved to Leighton where he attended school. He later attended Penn Business College in Oskaloosa, the University of Iowa and the University of Oregon.

On Aug. 28, 1928, he was married to Bertha Vore at Pleasantville. The couple farmed near Pleasantville before moving to Oskaloosa where Mr. Van Zuuk was involved in insurance and real estate. The couple moved to the Mayflower Home here in 1975.

He was a member of the Oskaloosa and Grinnell Kiwanis clubs and the Society of Friends.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha; one brother, John of Pella; and three sisters, Anna Van Loenen of Phillipsburg, Kan., Clara Mosher of Milo and Lucille Van Heukelom of New Sharon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Hattie Ver Steeg; and three brothers, Andrew, Ben and William.
