JOHN WILEY WAS LIFELONG RESIDENT OF POWESHIEK CO.

Funeral services for John Wiley, 71, were conducted Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 13, at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, Grinnell. Wiley was a lifelong resident of the Malcom area. He died Sunday, Aug. 11, at a Grinnell hospital following an extended illness.

The son of Henry and Ida Strong Wiley, he was born July 2, 1892, near Malcom and attended the rural schools of that community. He had farmed in the Malcom area all of his life and was a member of the Malcom Methodist church.

John was united in marriage with Agnes Larsen at the home of her parents in Malcom, Feb. 22, 1915. To this union six children were born: Lyle Wiley, Brooklyn; Mrs. Richard (Fern) Beyer, Montezuma; Russell Wiley, Montezuma; Mrs. Thomas (Lillian) LeVake, Plainfield; Wayne Wiley, Grinnell, and Alice Grace Wiley, who died in infancy.

April 9, 1930, John was united in marriage with Anna Alertsen, and to this union two children were born: Garland Wiley, Montezuma; and Mrs. Michael (Doris) Hotchkin, Grinnell.

Survivors include his wife Anna, seven children; 19 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Wilma Neville, Malcom, Mrs. Blanche Wiley, Mrs. Edna Titcomb, Grinnell, and Mrs. Fred Scruby, Montezuma; also two brothers, Raymond and Delmar.

Rev. James Robinson, pastor of the Malcom Methodist church, and Rev. G.R. Dieken of the Montezuma Presbyterian church officiated. Pallbearers were Fred Beck, Vernon Pargeon, Lester Thompson, Earl Mann, Lester Smith, and Henry Stahl. Helping with flowers were Mrs. Lester Thompson, Mrs. Vernon Pargeon, and Mrs. Fred Beck.

Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.
