CLYDE B. AUSTIN

Clyde B. Austin, 77, of Grinnell died of a stroke Thursday, Dec. 19, at his home.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Herb Knudten, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Organist was Teresa Ziegenmeyer.

Casket bearers were his sons, David, Kenneth, Larry, Bruce, Dennis and James. Honorary bearers were Delmar Adkins, Addison Jones, Ronnie Morrison, William Nagel Sr., Eldon Oltrogge, Walter Oltroge, Everett Wood and Bill Campbell.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Charles and Arta Geigenheimer Austin, he was born May 4, 1919, near Iowa City. He attended school at Cosgrove, Oxford and Williamsburg. In 1936, his family moved to a farm near Grinnell, and he graduated from Grinnell High School in 1939.

He was married to Marie Charlier Hanson Dec. 17, 1950, in Grinnell. The couple farmed north of Grinnell, and in 1986 they moved to their present farm east of Grinnell.

Mr. Austin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He also was a member of the Elks and Odd Fellows lodges of Grinnell. He was a former member of the Poweshiek County Extension Board and the ASCS Board.

Surviving are his wife; his six sons; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Irene Terrazas of New Mexico, Inez Kimm of Iowa City and Audrey Oltrogge of Grinnell; and two brothers, Vaughn of Arlington, Texas, and John of Cleveland, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ann Marie Austin; his stepmother, Dorothy Austin; and one brother, Wayne.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Hospice Grinnell or Grinnell Regional Medical Center's Home Health Service.
