OBITUARY

Frederick Brenniman was born near Berne, Switzerland, August 28, 1837, and died at his home in Grinnell, Ia., March 14, 1909, aged 71 years, 6 mos., and 14 days. He immigrated to the United States in 1852 with his parents and other members of the family, locating in Ohio. Three years later they came to Iowa and located in Poweshiek county.

On August 1, 1862, he enlisted in company H, Twenty-eighth regiment of Iowa volunteer infantry, and was honorably discharged from service on the thirty-first day of July, 1865, at Savannah, Ga.

On April 1, 1866, he was married to Matilda Gaumee. To this union was born nine children, all of whom survive him and were present at the funeral. They are Mrs. Emma Triggs of Denver, Colo.; O.R. Brenniman of Grinnell, Iowa; C.E. Brenniman of Shoshoni, Wyoming; W.F. and R.H. and Lillie I. of Grinnell, Iowa; Mrs. Ella Frease of Brooklyn, Iowa; Mrs. Rose Willett of Brooklyn, Iowa, and E.S. Brenniman of Shoshoni, Wyoming.

On August 22, 1889, occurred the death of his wife, Matilda. On September 27, 1893, he was again married to Mrs. Emily Waite of Oxford Junction, Iowa, who surives him.
