RITES SATURDAY FOR JOHN R. MCGRORY

John R. McGrory, 71, a resident of the Brooklyn community for many years, died at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 1967. Death was due to an apparent heart attack. Mr.MCgrory was helping at his son's farm in the Hartwick area at the time.

The funeral mass was read t 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Patrick's Catholic church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John T. Kennedy, officiating. Rev. Raymond Vogel of Holbrook, assisted. Burial was in Calvary cemetery with Giles Crider of Des Moines, Ross McCulla, Phil Eichhorn, Tom Ryan, Sr., Harvey Jones and Victor Vogel as casket bearers. In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. John Steyaert and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roth.

John Raymond McGrory, the son of James and Ella Cahill McGrory, was born November 4, 1895 near Chelsea. He attended a rural school near Chelsea and served in World War I. He came to the farm across the road from the Brethren church east of Brooklyn in 1920. On Aug. 9, 1921 he married Amelia Gerringer at St. Patrick's church, Brooklyn.

They continued on the same farm where in recent years they both enjoyed the collecting of antiques. Mr. McGrory was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a 49-year member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, John J. McGrory, Victor, and William P. McGrory of Cascade; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, William McGrory, Victor, and James McGrory, Chelsea; two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Jenny) Hannon, Williamsburg, and Mrs. Ray (Nellie) O'Brien, Parnell.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Mary.

Other attending clergy at the funeral Saturday were Rev. John Gaule, Williamsburg; Rev. Daniel Brown, Parnell; Rev. Leo Kuberich, Grinnell, and Rev. Wiegbert of St. Francis hospital, Grinnell.

Also present were W.N. Gerringer, Mrs. Edna Unversauw, Al Such and E.J. Such of Indianapolis, Ind., and relatives from Cascade, Parnell, Willliamsburg, Victor, Grinnell, Deep River, Malcom, Chelsea, Belle Plaine and Brooklyn.
