FRED CHARLES BEES

Funeral services were held Friday morning, April 10, at the Congregational Bible Church at Hartwick for Fred Charles Bees, 97, of Hartwick, who died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at the Belle Plaine Care Center. William Korns and Dennis Korns officiated. Music was by Joan McConnell, organist.

Casket bearers were Dean DeBrower, Shalen DeBrower, Shane DeBrower, David Roth, James Roth, Kent Roth, Tim Roth and Lee Walther. Honorary bearers were Tyler Blair and Kyle Walther. Interment was in the Hartwick Cemetery at Hartwick.

Fred was born on July 24, 1900, at Hartwick, to Frank and Anna Kulishek Bees. He was raised in the Hartwick area and graduated from Hartwick High School in 1918.

On Aug. 22, 1928, he married Mildred Ostrom at Hartwick. The couple made their home in Hartwick all of their married lives. Fred operated a gas station and also a repair and trucking business and retired in 1980. He was a member of the Hartwick church and served on the town council of Hartwick for 26 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, George Bees, and three sisters, Tillie McIlrath and two in infancy.

His son, Lowell Bees of Enid, Okla.; his daughter and her husband, Betty and Wallace Roth of Hartwick; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Heishman of Brooklyn survive him.
