JOHN L. CUMMINGS
John L. Cummings was born August 3, 1862, and departed this life March 12, 1909. He was born in Poweshiek county, Iowa and has lived on the present home place since he was three years of age.
February 20, 1895, he married Mrs. Ella Campbell. To this union were born four children: Lila, Raymond, Scott and Wilbur. All of these survive to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. Deceased belongs to one of the best known families of the country. He has three brothers--James of Malcom, William of Montezuma and George of Ewart, and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Jacobs and Mrs. N.J. Donnan, both of Ewart, all of whom were present at the funeral, except Mrs. Donnan, who was prevented by sickness.
Mr. Cummings was industrious and was a kind and obliging neighbor and friend. The high esteem in which he was held was manifested in the very large and sympathetic audience present at the funeral.
The funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church in Ewart on Monday, March 15, 1909, and were conducted by Rev. W.W. Woodburn of Grinnell and Rev. Mr. Hall of Ewart. The remains were laid to rest in Clover Hill cemetery. The sorrowing family have the deepest sympathy of all who knew Mr. Cummings for what he was--a good, industrious citizen and a kind father and husband.
