AN OBITUARY NOTICE OF MRS. ANNA OLTROGGE

Mrs. Anna Oltrogge was born in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, on September 18, *1854, and died early Thursday morning, February 20, at her home at 1012 Summer street, at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 3 days. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Robert Niederwimmer, and the body was laid to rest in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mrs. Oltrogge was the eldest of twelve children born to Hans and Margaret Matzen. On July 6, 1884 she came to this country and spent her active life in the Tama and Grinnell communities. She was united in marriage on February 18, 1886, to Frederich Oltrogge, who has preceded her in death about 18 years ago. To this union were born four children, three daughters and one son. They are: Mrs. Margaret Schultz of Malcom, William Oltrogge of Newburg, Mrs. Anna Goreham of Grinnell, and Mrs. Marie Lynch of Sheridan, Iowa. Besides she is mourned by two brothers and two sisters in Germany, and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Lidke of Rialto, Calif., and one brother, John Matzen of Brooklyn, Iowa; also one brother-in-law, Henry Oltrogge of Sheridan, and her husband's half-brother, A.H. Werhahn, of Great Bend, Kansas; besides eleven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Before coming to this country Mrs. Oltrogge was a member of the Lutheran church, and remained an active member in this church unto her end. Her last days were cheered by the devoted services of her daughters and her sister, besides other relatives and friends. She was truly a mother to all. She loved her home and her life centered in the welfare and comfort of those dear to her. She remained unto her end a patient and sincere Christian. May she rest in peace.

NOTE: Iowa WPA records has her birthdate as 18 Sept. *1855 and death date as 21 Feb 1935
