KENNETH ADKINS RITES MONDAY

Kenneth H. Adkins, 83, of 1716 Prairie St., Grinnell, died of a heart ailment Thursday, July 23, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and vocalist was Gordon Adkins.

Pallbearers were Mark Gaskill, David Gaskill, Jason Adkins, Ed Adkins, Bob Gulling and Don Thomas. Honorary bearers were Beth Gaskill, Misty Adkins and Michael Adkins.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Frederick M. and Linda Parmley Adkins, he was born Oct. 19, 1903, near Kellogg. He attended rural school and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1923. He farmed and worked at the former Grinnell Washing Machine Co.

On Feb. 12, 1929, he was married to Ruth Barbara Hotka at Valley Junction. The couple lived in Grinnell. Mr. Adkins operated a tank-wagon service for Poweshiek-Jasper Farm Service until 1936. Mr. and Mrs. Adkins farmed in Jasper County for three years, then moved to the Oak Grove area both of Grinnell where they farmed until 1977 when they moved to Grinnell. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Geraldine Gaskill of Corwith and Gordon of Germantown, Tenn.; six grandchildren; one brother, Wathel of Florence, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson in infancy, and one brother, Audry.
